I have been a home share provider for people with developmental disabilities with Thompson Community Services, TCS, in Kamloops for several years. It has been a very positive and enriching experience for me and my family.

Having a person with a disability live in our home has brought joy, laughter, strengthened our relationships and broadened our connections to our community. We have watched our clients show courage and persistence when taking risks and facing challenges that support their independence. It is very rewarding to watch their confidence grow as they develop new skills, friendships and a stronger sense of belonging within their community.

As a home share provider I have had the privilege of celebrating their successes and advocating for them when there are challenges. 

A key element that is part of the success I have experienced with having clients in my home is the support that my family receives from the staff at TCS. They are diligent about finding a match between the family and the client. They are easy to reach when there is a concern and visit regularly to provide assistance in planning and goal setting for each individual. They provide training, support and celebrate the successes of clients and home share providers in a fun and wonderful way!
